Layout Requirements
We accept the following file formats for printing:
Adobe PhotoShop (*.psd, *.tiff); Adobe Illustrator (*.ai, *.eps); Adobe InDesign (*.indd); Adobe PDF (*.pdf)
When using the *.jpeg format for raster images, you should remember that the degree of compression is achieved at the cost of loss of image quality.
The use of *.gif, *.bmp, *.pict formats, as well as images placed in the layout through the "clipboard" is simply unacceptable.
1. GENERAL FILE REQUIREMENTS
Do not use Russian letters in file names.
Do not allow the use of color models other than CMYK, Pantone - (RGB, HSB, LAB).
Bleeds (2 mm for sheet products and 5 mm for multi-strip products), if the layout in EPS or TIFF, the overhangs must be symmetrical.
Design elements should be located from the edge of the product (inward) by 3–4 mm.
In layouts made in Corel, Illustrator, all fonts must be in curves.
Resolution for raster images must be at least 300 dpi.
Filling with black according to the formula - C: 50; M:50; Y:50; K:100.
When choosing colors, do not trust the image of your monitor. You should also not focus on the print received on the printer.
One file must contain one item! If your product has a face and a turnover, you need to prepare two files.
The layout must not contain any ICC profiles. If there are color profiles, the raster processor automatically applies them, which does not always lead to the desired result.
The confirmation of the correctness and compliance of the layout is an electronic layout approved by e-mail, sent to the customer.
2. CORRECT LAYOUT OF PRINTED PRODUCTS
For all layouts prepared for printing, a universal rule applies: to the dimensions of the finished product, you must add 2 mm for bleed on each side. And all inscriptions and important design elements must be placed at a distance of 5 mm from the edges of the finished product.
So, the size of the finished business card is 90x50, and the layout should have a size of 94x54.
The size of the euro flyer in the finished form is 210x100, but in the layout you need to specify 214x104.
3. RESOLUTION OF LAYOUTS
When saving an image for publication, use TIFF or EPS formats. The file must conform to the CMYK color model. Make sure that the file does not contain any additional channels, layers and paths, except for the clipping path (Clipping Path) in EPS files. Without the need to apply complex effects to text, don't type it in raster graphics packages. If the text is still typed, do not change the Image Size parameters, be prepared for the fact that the printed text (especially small ones) may turn out to be blurry, illegible, with “torn” edges. Make sure the image resolution is 300 dpi.
4. RGB, CMYK and PANTONE
RGB mode (red - red, green - green, blue - blue) is used by light-emitting devices such as monitors or projectors.
CMYK (cyan - cyan, magenta - magenta, yellow - yellow, black - black) is a color mode for professional printing.
Each color mode has its own gamut, or range of colors, that can be reproduced with it. The RGB color gamut is wider, which imposes certain restrictions when converting an image to CMYK mode. The color gamut that can be reproduced using CMYK dyes also depends on the properties of the dyes themselves on the paper on which these dyes are applied. Minor color deviations can also be caused by the printing device itself.
The four spot colors of color printing (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) can only be used to reproduce a part of the colors, they are complemented by Pantone spot colors. Technological colors are not specified by numerical values - they can only be selected from the list.
Get started with your layout by initially setting your workspace to CMYK
RIGHT BLACK
Black text in the layout must be in one color according to the formula C: 0; M:0; Y:0; K:100.
Filling in black should correspond to the formula C: 50; M:50; Y:50; K:100.
Black text
C:50; M:50; Y:50; K:100 is wrong
C:0; M:0; Y:0; K:100 - correct
Fill with black
C:0; M:0; Y:0; K:100 is wrong
C:50; M:50; Y:50; K:100 - correct
5. CORRECT BOOKLET LAYOUT
When submitting a booklet layout with two or more folds, please note that the distance between the folds should be different. The side that wraps inward should be shorter by a couple of millimeters. (see picture below):
6. PREPARATION OF CATALOGS FOR PRINTING
To properly prepare the catalog file for printing, several conditions must be met:
The layout must be in *.pdf format.
The layout of the catalog must be done in Illustrator or InDesign. It is not allowed to provide a catalog layout in raster graphics formats - *.tif, *.psd, *.jpeg.
Departures on each side should be 3 mm.
The boundary for placing important elements and inscriptions inside the catalog is 15 mm.
Black text in one color according to the formula - C: 0; M:0; Y:0; K:100.
Text in willows
The inner block of the catalog is in one file, the cover of the catalog is in a separate file.
It is unacceptable to provide files with spreads, only page-by-page ones are accepted.
Word, Power Point, and Publisher are NOT designed to create a catalog layout
7. DIE CUTTING, CREASING, PERFORATION, SELECTIVE UV-VARNISH, STAMPING, EMBOSSING
In the layout file, the areas for selective varnishing and the contours of the stamp must be on a separate layer of the document and painted with some mixed ink (the name of the paint should reflect the essence of the finish - “LAK”, “NOJ”, “VYRUBKA”, etc.) and they must be assigned the overprint attribute. The varnish should not contain halftones, only 0% - there is no varnish and 100% - there is varnish. The varnish application accuracy is ±0.5 mm, so the minimum dimensions of objects are about 2 mm.
In the cutting contour, only the contours of the stamp (cut-outs, creasing, perforations, etc.) should be present. Types of creasing, cutting, perforating lines should be made in pantone (Spot Colors), have an overprint attribute, renamed to the appropriate names, and divided by color: red - cut, green - creasing, yellow - perforation. Filling with selective UV varnish is marked in blue, embossing is highlighted with the approximate color of the foil used, embossing in black.
8. TYPOGRAPHY
One of the inapplicable principles of typography is readability; the other is something more than just readability: it is the energy that attracts interest to the page, deserved or undeserved.
Here are some good typography rules:
Letters have their own life and dignity.
Please read the text before typing.
Open the outer logic of typography in the inner logic of text.
Make the visual connection between text and other layout elements (photos, captions, tables, charts, notes) a reflection of their real connection.
Choose a font or group of fonts that matches the text and makes it clearer.
Pay attention to even the smallest details.
